• There are eight whisky distilleries on Islay. Those with websites are found at Ardbeg, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain, Kilchoman and Laphroaig. Also worth visiting is the Isle of Jura distillery.

• The eponomously named www.isle-of-islay.com website (run by the Islay Jura Marketing Board) contains a good selection of links to resources about Islay.
• The Machrie features a championship golf course, providing a challenge to players of all levels.
• The Islay Pipe Band has performed in major venues in Glasgow and Edinburgh with John Rae's Celtic Big Feet and have taken part in the Tartan Day parade in New York City.
